Dr. Dorothy W. Huston founded the Tennessee Valley Diversity Leadership Colloquium (www.tnvalleydlc.com) in December 2014, where she served as the Executive Director. Her expertise in diversity leadership, higher education research and technology, community and civic engagement, and public relations warranted the need for this platform which otherwise would not be available to the broader community. She currently serves as the special advisor to the organization.
Dr. Huston is Founder and CEO of Technology Management Training Group, Inc., a provider of information technology, program management, and training solutions. She has 35 years of experience in organizational leadership, program planning and execution, training and development, student development, research administration, fundraising, TRIO program management and educational program outreach. She served as Vice President for Research and Development at Alabama A & M University (AAMU) for 7 years, during which the growth in research funding and contracting grew from $13 million to over $30 million annually. She designed the state and federal programs for AAMU, having garnered over $20 million in special state and federal appropriations. She was responsible for executing unprecedented agreements with business and industry, including loaned executives, IPAs, cooperative agreements, and partnership agreements that include support for co-ops, interns, and corporate scholarships. Dr. Huston has consulted and provided training for more than 50 organizations and agencies. She is an experienced proposal developer, evaluator, and trainer.
She earned her undergraduate degree at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1979 and her Masters and Doctorate degrees from the Ohio State University in 1980 and 1983. She is a 2006 graduate of Harvard University’s School of Business Executive Development Institute. She has participated in management development in the Canada, Netherlands, Belgium, France, New Zealand and British Columbia. She is a graduate of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County – Class 12 and Leadership Alabama Class XXI. She has earned awards from diverse organizations, including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, AAMU Alumni Association, Delta Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Education Foundation, Coalition of 100 Black Women, Oakwood University, Women’s Economic Council of North Alabama, Union Chapel Christian Academy and Girls Incorporated. She is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
